The first scenes of desolation and fill the screen real estate chaos. Alien invasion? Destruction caused by man? Natural disaster?

- What strikes immediately is the impressive scenic reconstruction of a chaotic New York real estate yet, violated its modernity, is now partially returned to nature and wildlife.
Tantissime auto raggruppate in un gigantesco ingorgo, a rappresentare il vicolo cieco senza via d'uscita di momenti drammatici, accaduti in un passato non molto lontano. E poi agghiacciante immobilità, assenza di vita umana. E' così che il regista ha scelto di far entrare lo spettatore nell'atmosfera inquietante del film, di far percepire la solitudine dell'unico uomo rimasto indenne in una rovinosa realtà. Scenografie d'effetto e atmosfere angoscianti, sono i lati salienti che danno spessore a questa pellicola e che in fin dei conti, può essere definita abbastanza interessante.
A voler esser pignoli, o forse coerenti, bisogna ammettere che al contempo, non è esente da qualche piccolo lato negativo. Intanto dà subito impression of already seen, situations certainly not original. The difference is that in I Am Legend there is less action and everything is focused on a single protagonist.
However, the director Francis Lawrence , could not invent from scratch the whole story of the film, because it is none other than famous novel of the same name , written by Richard Matheson ! If anything, the problem lies elsewhere. The World film, from that distant 1954, when the book was written, could not resist the allure of the big screen revive its interweaving science fiction - horror. Just think of the film The Last Man on Earth 1964 and White Eyes On Planet Earth of 1975, both film adaptations of Matheson's story on paper. Or the many other films, such Dawn Of The Dead, or the aforementioned 28 Weeks Later and the like, which in later years took its cue from those pages, creating a cult genre, but dangerously repetitive and predictable . Precisely for this reason, even those who did not read the book, it can also be annoying feeling and have seen a recurring theme. The originality, then, is not an honor to I Am Legend.
For the rest, you can get involved easily, by silences full of suspense scenes, the courage of the protagonist, but also from his solitude, spectacular and steeped in flashback from sadness, from life force that tries to enter the track of normality even in the most extreme conditions. And 'this last thing that the director wanted to send more, the innate human need to recreate daily life consisting of simple gestures and reassuring, the indispensable need to have someone with whom to interact and discuss, why stay completely alone in a desolate place is terrible, is not part of human nature.
In the film, Robert Neville, is holding a special bond with her dog and deep, almost like a daughter, a sister, a friend, not an animal, but a person equal. Together they create a semblance of family and this helps him to remain fairly rational and not go crazy from loneliness.
However, this umpteenth version shown on the big screen, departs from the original story in some parts of the book, not only regarding the physical appearance and the previous work of the protagonist, but especially for the ending! Which is not very pleased to have scholars of narrative Matheson. In my view, something is off-key note in the latter part of the film, events and too hasty entry into the scene of two characters from the second floor, in a jiffy even become major players, well, not very in tune with the rest of the plot. E' giusto soffermarsi anche sugli effetti speciali, che per quando riguarda certi "personaggi costruiti" non ha dato risultati eclatanti, poiché questi hanno poca naturalità e fanno percepire fin troppo una grafica da videogioco.
Diverso è il discorso per le maestose ricostruzioni di New York, frutto di una ben riuscita combinazione di riprese real tricks of the trade.
